Once upon a time there lived a mother with one eye. She had one boy who hated her for her look as she had only one eye. It was an embarrasment for this child. He will not allow her to visit his school for she will be a great embarrasment for him. She was so poor that she used to cook food for others to feed her only child. She was alone as her husband died in an accident. But she was determined to give her only son the best of the education.

One day she visited the school of the boy, it was all embarrasment for him. He was so disturbed at her sudden appearance, he gave scornful look and ran away. Seeing this lady, his friends laughed at him. One of his class mates told him, "Eee, your mother has only one Eye". The boy came back home and scolded her and warned her not to visit his school again.

Time passed, this boy studied hard, graduated, left the house long back never to returned to her mother. He was employed and started earning a sizable income but he had no inkling of the fate of her mother. He left the place and settled elsewhere. Years passedby, he got married, he had children. One day, the door bell rang, surprisingly it was her mother standing. Seeing this one eyed woman, the child screamed and ran away. This boy recognized his mother and said, "how dare you come to my house and scare my children, get out of here and never come back". To this his Mom quietly answered "Oh! I am sorry, I may have gotton the wrong address". Saying this she disappeared.

One day an invitation came to this boy to visit his native place and the school for reunion. He quitely left his house and attended the school function. At the end of the function, some one in the meeting handed him over a letter from his mother, who died recently. The letter was as follows:

"My dearest son,

I think of you all the time, I am sorry I came to your house uninvited and scared your children. I was so glad that you are coming to the school for reunion, but I could not get up from the bed to see you. I am very sorry for I was a constant embarrasment to you when you were growing up.

You see....when you were very little, you met with an accident and that you lost your eye. As a mother I could not stand watching you having to grow up with an one eye. So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.

Yours proud mother."

As he was reading this letter, the boy now grown up, started shivering his eyes welled up, the face of her mother and her noble sacrifice went unrecognised came before him, he cried and shouted aloud. But she had gone for ever, never to come back. This fellow was sobbing uncontrollably but it was too late.
